Which ER skimmer equals a BM200??
I am not as familiar with all of the ER models as most are. I have a BM200 and may consider trying an ER skimmer in it's place. I attempted to trade my BM200 for an MRC skimmer, but thought maybe I'd try something I have never had before, like an ER.
What do you suggest?? |

Why are you trying to get rid on the BM200? As a ER owner I would reccomend looking to the Bubble King, ReefFlo and Deltec's as they all pull more air. Alot of online dealers who sponsor RC seem to be getting away from ER's. Just an observation I have made. Places that use to carry the full line now only carry one or 2.

My wife asked the same question, especially after agreeing to the $$$ to purchase it originally. I want to try something new. The BM200 is simply killer!! But prior to that purchase, I thought about an ER, but never comitted to it. I hate modding, so the BM was the right choice. ASM's and Octo's often need some sort of mod, sorry if I am wrong about that. ER's seem to work fine without modding as well. Curiosity mostly BryanJ.
My total system volume by the way is about 180g. |

Its really hard to match the size/air draw of ER's to BM's because the BM's draw so much air, and have such small bodies.
sjm817 had an ER RS250 as well as a BM250, and like Davey mentioned, they are about the same. I'd say you'll get more air with the BM, but a larger body and more contact time with the ER. FWIW, ER is building an internal bubble plate/conical style skimmer. That might be something to consider because it adds some new design elements to mix, so you're not just getting an older design. I think the reason so many dealers are getting away from ER is due to how ER restructured their company. They now sell their skimmers online & from what I gather the dealers who sell their skimmers have a smaller profit margin which makes it not worth their time. They can sell other skimmers for less money & make more on them, even if they are a inferior product. There isn't anything wrong with ER, just a different direction that the company is going which has caused several retailers as well as wholesalers to drop the line completely.
I personally would take a ER over a BK or Deltec, I do not feel the performance difference is worth the inflated cost (mostly vs Deltec). The Reeflo's are great & I would consider one of those as well, mostly the NW250. Premiumaquatics does have the ER RS135 & RS250's on clearance, I would definantly take a look at those if they are in your budget.

I'd say this has a lot to do with the flood of Chinese skimmers into the market as well as the slowing economy and dollar's low value. I think ER wants to make as much money as they can, and still be competitive. I mean, isn't that what businesses want?

Didn't mean to imply ER was a bad skimmer just that it was a lateral move from the BM. With a new design coming it would make sense for everyone to sell what they have so they arent taking a hit on the old body style. So when is the new design supposed to be ready?
It will be interesting to see what happens to Deltec prices when Marine Depot gets them in.

Bryan, here is a link to the thread in the new ER forum:
http://euroreefinc.proboards74.com/i...ead=1202242296 I can't imagine Deltec prices going down like the BK prices did, but I am also interested to see. Jim

If they keep that price on them and are pulling 960 lph of air, I think I will be hearing Happy Birrthday to me this fall.
