Would this mod work on a Euroreef RS-180?

I am looking at my RS-180 and there are no bubbles at all below the output nozzle of the pump. There is probably 4-5 inches with no bubbles. Would it help if I put a 45 or 90 degree output on this to send the bubbles down more before they go up? It seems they would have more contact time.

My thinking is that this should help, however, if it did you would think that they would be designed this way as that part would cost about 30 cents.

Thanks
Ray
