cycling and algae growth

my dad and i were wondering what exactly happens algae wise during the cycle of liverock? there is dead material, and we are starting to see this brown mossy stuff. what can we expect to see from the rock in the next month? if we due water changes and scrub the rock, what should happen in the next month or so?

TIA

The brown algae will go away on its own. Dont scrub the rock. Keep PH, Alk, Calcium and Magnesium at proper levels. You dont want to change water for at least 4 or 5 weeks. How big is the tank?
