Hey just signed up tonight been in the game for a year. i am fairly new to sps. So here is the ??????
My Aquapod 24 has a 250w sunpod sitting only 3-4 inches off the water. Mainly because i cant hang it. Its 18" to my sand bed from my light. How far down can i put sps and how high is safe. I had a green bali slimer frag at the top. It lost alot color but has shown growth. im afraid i was bleachong it out. |

I would start out most if not all new corals at the bottom of the tank, or put several screens over the lights to acclimate the new coral and/or reduce the photo period as well. Try moving the slimmer down a bit (if possible) and he will regain the lost color. Sometimes it can be due to different water chemistry as well. Ive had some pieces coming from higher PO4/NO3 tanks to mine which is undetectable and losing color.
As far as how high and how low really depends on the 'SPS' type. Some require higher light and some prefer low light then some can be placed anywhere. I have some of the same species that is placed high and one is placed low, which will show a different color variation. BTW there is a specific SPS forum under corals...
