Is this rock reef safe?

I ran across some rock at a local shop it is grey, porous, and loaded with fossal imprints of seashells. The guy who runs the place says they mine it from old oyster beds (the shell imprints are not oysters). I put a small piece in vinager and it kept fizzing for hours. The rocks were all around the size of a Nerf football and the guy said they would cost 5.5 cent per pound.

What are your thoughts or concerns?

Thanks
David

Vingar will dissolve compounds made of calcium carbonate.
