Octopus BHF300F
In this link below when you view the image of the skimmer, there is a green mesh looking filter pad in the bottom left corner of the skimmer. Why do the people that have this skimmer insist on taking out the filter pad. I also saw that one person on one of these threads capped the top of the output to the skimmer. What does capping the open top part of the output do?

I left it, it kept all the micro's from escaping. Just pull it out every other week or so and rinse it out. There's to much worry about nitrate factories with small foam pads.

Thanks for that luke...Such a small filter pad can create nitrates that stand out in the tank like that? Anyway's I can't wait to buy this thing! Also do you know what capping the output to the skimmer does? Would you say that the skimmer works good, pulls out good skimmate, quiet? All that..Just lookin to get my facts straight
thanks

Its super quiet if you put the lids on it and use the silencer's. The skimmer is great for a 55-75g tank. The filter pad can create trates but you would have to let it get really nasty imo. hth

sounds awesome.. The silencers and lids are separate purchases or comes with the skimmer? Where did you order your's from? (If you have one, I'm assuming you do).

Is there a way to control water flow through the skimmer? I'm used to my prism's water flow valve, but I've never had a skimmer with pumps in it before. I'm also assuming that this Octopus-BHF300F is better then an aqua c remora pro. That would be my only other choice.
