Question ID stuff on LR

Normally I would not care about some funk on my LR but this rock was purchased as dead rock so i am a little concerned to see something pop up on it. Tank has been up 2wks and i just added my cuc. Can anyone tell me what this yellow stuff is?

Oh no.....not that stuff!

Just kidding, it looks like old epoxy for gluing down frags. It's probably showing more in the actinic light.
Yup,and 2 weeks is TOO soon.

It wasnt there before i put it in and if it was it was not nearly as prominant. I just looked a lil closer and it almost looks slimy so I'm a lil worried. The tank has LR and LS and i have already seen a spike and drop in Amm. and Nitrites and Nitrates and starting come up slowly so it seemed safe enough for the base cuc

Please read the articale. You need to let your bacteria mature .This takes time.Whene you start adding things then it stunts its growth and actual cycle time takes longer. They may not die but there unhappy and hungry.Adding food only makes it worse then your on a long road.

I had some similar looking stuff on a piece of my Lace rock when I first set my tank up. It turned a white slime and then completely went away within a week. A lot of people on here told me they were sponges but I have not seen anything else like that since then.

Says if bio load is greater then the bacteria then it could recycle.

the bacteria vs light bio load result is at the bottom where it says what to do in red as a result of the vs. Please don't get me wrong i am thankful for any advise that I can get and i understand you pov, however i feel confidant that my system is within normal parameters and will be ok. Also its already in there so i will just keep note to proceed slowly and with caution and i will continue to test my water. and keep close watch on them. Thank you for your help

Any other ideas on my unidentified yellow gunk?

Could be normal cyano or lack of flow.If your useing main lights full time at first this causes algea blooms.
Whats used for flow?
Water source?

Lights 8 hrs a day 2 korilla #3's plus flow from HOB skimmer and Filter Water is RO/DI from university lab my gf works in. I love freebies! I have had my diatoms and green is starting to back down as well so i am fairly happy with the progress I just noticed the yellow while cleaning the glass. I guess i will just keep an eye on it worst case i will take the LR its on out and clean it (its only on one rock)

Ill bet this is in a lower flow spot. I would be happier with 2 K4's.Whene you feed them frozen add some extra and whatch how it moves. It should stay suspended and moving.
Also power head placement very important. Do you have them pointed toward the surface?

They are positioned on either side of the tank facing center and slightly down and filter return runs behind my LR my skimmer doesnt really move much but it takes care of any film on the top of the water so i dont really need them pointed up.

Facing each other will cancell themselves out lowering circulation. There are a few ways but one sure way is to place one on the left mid range facing front center glass and one one the right off set facing front center. This should push it toward the back and if rock is loose then it will hit the back. After time the repitition will also help.SOmetimes spot flow helps in crowded areas.

To me the stuff on your rock appears to be lichen. Not some kind of aquatic lichen but the kind you find growing on rocks everywhere.

Lace rock can often be basalt harvested from the forest etc and may have lichen growing on it. If the rock is basalt, it is not the same as live rock (not very porous) and could contain other minerals that it could leach out.

After searching a bit on the net to no real answers i was beginning to think that since it was dry base rock i guess i will take it out and put it in my qt and see what happens although i cant imagine that it would really hurt anything
