DE MH Bulb Question

I was installing a new 250W DE MH bulb today and one of the little ceramic tabs that extends over the contact broke off when the bulb clicked into the socket. If you are looking down on the bulb, it's the flange that would otherwise hide the metal contact pieces and cover the contact point. This doesn't jeopardize the integrity of the bulb and I'm thinking this tab is there for safety (keep water from splashing up onto the contacts). My bulb is safely away from water by virtue of the glass UV cover. Has this ever happened to anyone? Any thoughts on safety/integrity of the bulb?
