Questions about Sump and Protein Skimmers
I am in the process of planning my 29 gallon which will be put up within the next month hopefully. I have decided to make the 10 gallon tank that currently runs in my room a fuge for the 29 gallon. I plan to have it drilled and everything but to be honest I don't know the first thing about sumps/drilling etc.
Could anyone give me any simple diagrams or explanations of what is required. I obviously plan to have 2 holes drilled, one for outake, the other for intake. Do I need an overflow box or anything, will the holes be drilled at the bottom or top of the tank. I am not going to be drilling the tank myself but I would assume the placement of the holes and overflow box etc. is a personal preference. Do I even need an overflow box? I was also looking for a recomendation on a water pump which I will need to pump the water back up from the fuge. Any information or help would be much appreciated. Now my other main question was about protein skimmers. I have chosen to get one but some people have said that they can deplete the water of some nutrients as it may "skim" them out. What is everyones thoughts on this? Anyways, I still plan to run a skimmer on the 10 gallon fuge so I was looking into a few different ones. I was just looking for some feedback or recomendations on what people would think is a sufficient skimmer. Here is what I am looking at now: http://www.bigalsonline.com/BigAlsUS...ewheel65gallon Also, what is the difference from the needle wheel and the venturi skimmers? The aquac's were also recommended to me. If anyone has any other brands they have had luck with let me know. It also has to fit on a 10 gallon.....will the coralife even fit on a 10 gallon? I know it is a lot of questions but if anyone can answer anything it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Zac |
