Question about a Tang in a QT tank??

Hi,

I recently put a Blue tang in my QT tank.

Here's my question. My thought was not to treat the QT tank with copper or any other medication until I had to. I wanted to see if the Tang comes down with Ich or anything else. My feeling was, why treat the fish unless I have to? If the Tang is parasite free after 7-10 days then he's good to go? Right?
I guess my concern is.....is he really free of any parasite? Is he going to come down with Ich after putting him into the DT after additional stress of moving him again? Or am I better off just treating him with copper right from the beginning & eliminating any possibility?

Don't add medication if its not sick. To make sure it has no diseases it should be in the QT for atleast four weeks. Give it a good diet with plenty of vitamins and it should be fine.

you should wait 4 weeks with no sign of the disease to be safe

Thanks. I'm feeding him spectrum pellets, Mysis, brine & Green dried seeweed. He seems to like the pellets the best, if you can believe that! Anything else you recommend I feed?

try different types of greens. you can feed them nori (like what you have on sushi and you can get it from the grocery store), a bit of macroalgae, blanched (boiled for a few seconds-technical cooking term haha) cabbage or spinage leaves, peas, etc. (as long as its not a green that is full of water like iceberg lettuce or celery or anything like that). You can get garlic guard and soak its greens in it for a little bit. This should attract the fish to the food, and at the same time boost its immune system.

depending on the size of the qt tank I would slow down on the Nori and green stuff--uneaten it could turn to ammonia and phosphates
Iwould feed him flake a little at a time but more often==and soaked in garlic guard is a good suggestion

I'll try it out. My QT is 20g & I try to do a 15% water change a couple times per week.

the spirilina aglae tablets by Sera are excellent. You stick them to the side of the glass and the tangs really have to work on them--absolutely no mess or waste

you just press them on with your finger--the spirulina is mixed in with some sticky
