Reef fish eats Chicken Egg
My Eibli angel is a hearty eater and as I was preparing his usual meal of frozen and pellet fish food, I noticed some remains of a hard boiled chicken egg in the sink. I took some & dropped it in the tank. First, my tang eagerly swam to it but put on the breaks. But the angel snatched it up without hesitation! In fact he ate all the egg particles! I figured a little more cholesterol & protein wouldn't do any harm. What does everyone think?

Eggs are one of the most nutritious single foods there are. I have fed mashed up hard boiled egg yolks to FW live bearer fry with decent success on finicky eaters but good growth on those that gobbled it down. I wonder how corals would react to it?

I'll look to see if the fish gives off gas bubbles at the rear! Haha!
All jokes aside though, I'm serious about having this as part of the diet. It's cheap, fresh, and nutritious. Hard boiled egg with yolk is not as messy feeding if done in smaller amounts, enough for fish to consume without waste. One key is to cook it only until the yolk is still moist & sticky so it clumps easily. I'll try feeding it to corals as well. First the brains and acans. I bet filter feeders can benefit too. |

as long as you don't use cooking oil or butter, don't see why not.

Scrambled is fine. Overeasy with the yolk being runny will pollute the tank.
I'm going to drop a piece of egg in my Fungiia and see how he likes it. |
