Have you noticed a difference in water quality skimming light vs dark?

Oh hey, was just looking this up to put a final word in... just incase anyone happens to read this post when deciding on skimmers...

I put a firm "keep out" on the aquarium overnight and wouldn't you know that by this afternoon it appears to be skimming. Maybe a 1/4" of fairly dark green.

So, no not a bad apple afterall. Inexperienced user.

I'm in the computer industry... ever heard of PEBKAC? Classic case here.

Anyway, all looks good. I'm leaving the door shut another day or two just to be sure.

And thanks again to everyone who stopped my mass hysteria!

Over skimming can remove wanted trace elements. Under skimming will raise ammonia. HAve to find that happy medium and overskimming would have a noticable change but would take time .

I don't see how overskimming can remove trace elements that are needed. Skimmer generally remove organic compounds. Underskimming won't increase ammonia in any but the most oddly-configured systems.
