Help on starting over

I had a problem with my tank and corals died and I took out all the corals and left the water, live rock and live sand in the tank. No water being circulated, light on or heater on.

THat has been about 6,7 months ago. I am now ready to start up again. Will I be able to add water and let a new cycle start and get everything going again or will the LR and LS need to be replaced?

THanks,
Brian

good ? i would assume anything alive on the rock would be dead now. what caused your tank to crash? i myself would totally clean the tank, ditch the sand and get new sand and use the old rock and some new rock and start over, good luck.

agreeing with the post above if your tank has been stagnant for 6 months its dead all tho i wouldn't trash the sand and rock drain the water and clean it all leave the rocks un-scrubbed but was out the sand. leavening dead things on your rock will only help your new cycle the stuff will fall off allowing bacteria to feast on and grow and yes you will have to recycle your tank good luck

I would still ditch the sand--it just is not worth it--it can be broken down and full of nitrates and phosphates and other organics
