Your shrimp, mean or nice?
Well I have had 3 pep shrimps for a while now ( they cleaned up some apstasia I had ) but they have always been a bit shy. About a week and a half ago I got a cleaner shrimp and he just seems to be the coolest little guy, always out and about.
Well to get on with the topic, I was feeding my anem's and he was close to one of them. When I put my hand down to the Anem he didn't move at all. I was like "wow what a brave little guy". So I got a little piece of shrimp in between my fingers and brought it right in to him and he was eating right from my hand. It was totally awesome! So do your shrimp do that or run away? Post your experiences with your little shrimp dudes. |

I think cleaners are the most outgoing of the shrimp.
Fire shrimp are not like this, however. They hide for the most part. They look gorgeous though. Multiple cleaners will fight for dominance a bit. My roommate has 3 in her 75 and they go at it sometimes. Haven't noticed any limb/antenna loss though. Her fire shrimp just stays in its little cove most of the time. |

Yeah My cleaner shrimp jumps on my hand and attempts to clean me He is fearless.....My freind was helping me glue some LPS down to LR and it bit him HAHA. Not hard, but made him jump because he wasn't expecting it. By far the most entertaining invert in my tank

I had a cleaner in a previous tank of mine. It would always hop on my hand. It would also hop on the turkey baster at feeding time. I don't have one in my current setup, as I didn't like how it would constantly steal food from my corals. I have a hard enough time keeping my fish and hermits from stealing food from my corals.
They are cool though. Tim

i have 2 cleaners and 6 fire shrimp and they are ALL outgoing! when my hand goes in the tank, depending on the section, i will have at least 4 of them jump on. they are by far the most entertaining part of the tank!
PS. the fire shrimp can nip a whole lot harder than the cleaners! Last edited by tush; 05/13/2008 at 01:42 PM. |

I had a cleaner shrimp once. Coolest littlg guy. Named him Mr. Clean. He would jump on my hand like others above. He got very big and was rather aggressive. He ended up riding my sea hare around attacking it by pulling chunks of skin off. The hare inked in the tank. Here is a shot.

My cleaner shrimp cleans my hand all the time to. I bought two candy cane pistol shrimp and a watchman goby. And they all three live in a cave the shrimp dug out under the rock. They hardly ever come out, I might see them once in a week.

All the peps I have had eventually turned intoagressive total pains in the a$$. No matter how much I tried to feed them they always stole any food I fed my corals, reaching inside their mouths (rics and LPS) and pulling out food from well inside. I grew to hate them. I will NEVER have any shrimp again.
