Best media to run in a Two Little Fishes Phosban Reactor
What is the best media for this reactor to battle hair algae?

I use Rowaphos, it keeps my phosphates low and the media seems to last for a while, but at around $75 a liter it is expensive. There is a generic phosphate media from twopartsolution.com that is available in bulk and is inexpensive, I've heard from people who use it that its good.

I run 2 in my 90 gallon.
1) Kent Marine Phosphate Sponge 2) Kent Marine Reef Carbon In less than TWO WEEKS my algae has COMPLETELY disappeared! LOVE IT! Two thumbs up to both Phosban reactors and these media. |

would you reccomend running the carbon in one of the reactors instead of the chemi pure bags i lay in my sump....after running the two do you notice your water quality goin way up......did you run them in sump or hang on...and one more thing do you think i woulod be able to run them in line from my pump that runs through my chiller to also go through the phos reactors??????

* No bags. Put the carbon and the phosphate sponge straight into the chamber/reactor * Both are running on separate pumps - Rio 90 - just perfect! * Pumps are in sump, inside the chamber where the protein skimmer is. Then the water exits into the sump into the return chamber * Always on, 24/7 * Not sure about the chiller. Remember that there's a restriction on flow - can't be higher than 70GPH, that is why those Rio 90 are just perfect and have low consumption. I believe chillers have higher flow rates, from 300GPH to 700GPH or more if I am not mistaken. Therefore I believe you'll outrun those reactors using them w/ a chiller and they will do no good. Do I notice a difference? ABSOLUTELY! My glass was turning green, along w/ my background. In less than TWO WEEKS all algae COMPLETELY disappeared! The more I look at my tank the more I am impressed! Water has improved and is very clear! Mind you, I also have filter socks filtering down my overflow water from my display to my sump, which collects LOTS of detritus (Have to change it every couple of days). So I am sure this helps keeping the water clearer. And I also have about 15 snails in my 90 gallon tank going around eating algae. However, I worried about them since there isn't any algae left - what are they gonna eat? |

I use PURA complete in my reactor. I media does it all. I change it every 30 days but my tank is crystal clear. Not a spec of algae and Ionly have to wipe the glass 1x per week.
