phosban reactor
I just got a phosban reactor and was wondering if I need to use the media inside a media bag (inside the reactor) or if it can be inside the chamber loose?

If in doubt, just use your wife's old nylon.

No, the media bag is provided in the phosban replacement media for use in a sump if you do not have a reactor.

If phosphates are bad can I double the dose in the reactor? It could easily fit 300g worth of phosban media in it. People have told me that I can run two reactors, but if I can fit two jugs of media in one reactor, why can't I just do that?

Because there's only a certain amount of media that the reactor can handle - I believe that's 200g.
I am sure they've tested these reactors and found out that adding more media will have its disadvantages. |

If you put too much media in it you can't get the media to fluidize or tumble slightly without raising the flow so high it grinds itself to dust. Too little flow with too much media and you soon have a solid cake of iron that you have to chisel out. I would stick with a single reactor and the recommended dose, it does not work overnight but once the phosphates are in check its only there to maintain low levels and will last longer between refills.
