I thought about plumbing it into the sea, but the sea is about a thousand miles in either direction from milwaukee, so the cost of the PVC pipe would get prohibitive.......

and finally, how my wife feels about all of this....

just kidding, actually she is very supportive. Our biggest disagreement was that she wanted the big, cool fish (i.e. FOWLR) and I wanted a reef. Since I am designing it, it win

big changes today....

I added an auto top off system... so let's hope there's no flood in the basement by the morning.

I also installed a pH probe so i can continuously monitor.

I also added a Green Star Polyp and a Flame Scallop, but I think he's dead already.... the hermits and serpent stars went straight for him, so I had to rescue him to the sump...

...let's see what happens.

Wow, what a gorgeous tank AND house! The closest your basement comes to my house is the view of the back of the tank in the fish room! Unfortunately, I can't hide it behind a tank! Simply beautiful! I can't wait to see how it progresses. And maybe you can find another wall for your wifes aquarium!

I would advise slowing down your fish acquisition. Since corals don't impact the bioload too much, you could begin to acquire them. I used to live in Milwaukee. Is that LFS still on the north side? On Brown Deer I think, south of the former Northridge Shopping Center. Oh, I wish we had such a store in Rochester!

yeah, that store is still there... Hoffers

and yeah, I have slowed down my fish acquisition... at Hoffers I was this close to getting the hippo tang but went with the green star polyp instead.
