50 gallon tank lighting (MH)

So, I am in the planning stages for this tank, I bought the tank here in okinawa, so the dimensions are all in metric, it's nearly 50 gallons though. 17x17x36 inches are the specs. With a 17 inch deep tank, would 150W halides be sufficient light penetration, or maybe should I go with the 250w lights? I plan on hanging two pendants over the tank, with no other form of light supplementation. After reading up on the various lighting resources here on RC, I am leaning towards a 14k bulb.

So, I'd greatly appreciate hearing some opinions!

Thanks,
Lionel
