Oceanic Reef Ready Systems
Anyone have any opinions on the Oceanic Reef Ready Systems, the ones that come with a stand, they're pre-drilled and come with a sump/pump etc.

Their nice. I don't own one personally but have maintained an oceanic reef ready before. Having a predrilled setup and once desined to work with stand/sump combo is convinent and work well enough. I don't personally care for the oceanic reef ready sumps since I can DIY one for alot less and it be more effective. Pre-drilled setup like that would be nicer IMO than a non-drilled setup. (all my setups are non-drilled, mostly due to fear of breaking another tank and couldn't afford one like your lookingg at)

I like the tanks and stands just fine but I would customize the sump/fuge and equipment package.

Actually, it's a used setup so the price isn't bad at all. But if the sump etc all needs to be replaced, maybe I shouldn't go that route.

I don't necessarily know that it needs to be replaced under the circumstances. But you would most likely want to add a stand alone refugium to the system unless it already has one.

I don't know much about sumps, I know the basics etc, but I can't tell if that sump has a built in refuge. I don't think it does. In which case you are correct, it would need one added. Unfortunately the stand doesn't have room for anything other than the sump below it, and I don't have room for anything outside of the stand, so that seems like a roadblock.

I'm still thinking about getting this setup (it's still available), anyone out there have any experience with these sumps?

The oceanic sumps are nice looking but way overpriced. Better off making your own (glass tank + Baffles)

My friend has one and it's nice (sump I mean) but honestly, for the $$ its way easier to build a sump yourself. It can be done for under $50 with very little equipment an know how.
I have 2 oceanic tanks and they are both exceptional quality.

I have a 75 gallon oceanic RR with their sump. It is all very high quality. If you want a refugium, however, you just need to add baffles where you want them. If this is a used set-up and you can get the whole package for a good price, I would go for it.

Yup, it's used. I don't know if the price is decent yet, I haven't priced them out new up here (Canada). The lights are for FOWLR I believe, so they're not going to be of use to me, but the tank/stand/sump/return pump is still useful.
I would have no problem build a sump myself, but I want a tank that's bottom drilled from the manufacturer and I'm having a tough time finding a used one. This one is used and happens to come with the sump and a stand and I'm not going to buy it then toss the sump that comes with it if I go for it. |
