Keeeping live rocks clean.
I have to use my turkey baster to blwo off sand of course this is normal.
what if I did not do that. Would the areas covered by sand kill off anything underneath? |

Over time, I have found sand will smother what is below it. Keeping the rocks clean is a best practice.

I like to blast stuff and get it up into suspension in the water right before a big water change. Over a few months it significantly reduces. Having a filter bag somewhere in your plumbing and a good skimmer will help you out as well.
