Angry Having trouble finding decently priced corals FS in Canada

Anyone know of either an online store that ships to canada, or is located in canada where I can purchase some corals. Or even better one located in Montreal. Or again, bestest, one of you guys who might be willing to sell to me?

I'm looking for ANY type of coral(s)

Funny thing you say that. There are ZERO reef or fish stores of any kind for atleast 30 minutes each way. I was thinking of it. What do you think a startup of this would cost? A few hundred thousand no doubt.

I have no clue. I'm sure if you were frugal you could probably do it for quite a bit less then that. The real question is what is the market in your area for this type of a business. You would have to sell lots of $15 dollar Mandarins to crack that monthly nut.

Very true. But it seems like Aquariums in general are gaining steam with my generation (25 years old) and a lot of people my age are buying aquariums and fish. I was surprized to talk to some old friends to find out they ALL have fish now! lol. I'm actually going to start looking into this. And get an appointment with the bank.

Check for a local reef club in your area.

Its not TOO expensive to start an LFS if youre only doing coral. Theres one near me where all they have are 120g stock tubs filled with coral. They sell some fish, but they dont sell lighting, tanks, etc. The only dry goods they have in store are test kits, salt, supplements, sand. Small stuff like that.

LFS is doable.
There is nothing keeping the LFS from participating in the online retail market as well. I think bootstrapping the start up would be wise. Don't get into alot of debt to open the doors.
It's also very wise to get a job in the business for a while just to get a good feel for it from their perspective. Learn as much about the business as you can on their dime

TRy and find a local SW fish club. RC might have a forum you can get in touch with locals.

Really you have trouble finding corals and livestock in Montreal? I also live in Canada but located in Ottawa. I prefer to buy my livestock from a guy that brings the fish in from Toronto wholesalers. Considering Montreal has a big airport i would think there would be some nice stores there. Check with a local club for sure.

Great! Another site to spend all of my money on...

Good think we aren't adding coral until the fall...cuts down on the impulse purchases.

Check our local forum AquariumPros which draws mostly from the 401 corridor from Windsor to Montreal. I know I've seen others from Montreal there.
I haven't checked the list of clubs but wouldn't be surprised if there was a Montreal club having their announcements on AquariumPros.
Our London club is probably the most active one there and we have regular meetings including frag/coral selling/swapping. Makes it much easier to get going.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to do only fish? Seems to me you'd be spending a lot more money on lighting since you'd need MH or at least T5 for corals... Plus you'd use more electricity (or hydro for the Canadians) doing coral rather than fish.

Also more money on testing/dosing/etc.
