Skimmer Help

I have this skimmer, not sure of the brand, but when I plugged it in last week it worked fine but today when I tried it made this weird grinding noise. Any idea what might be causing this annoyance?

The skimmer is a Pro Clear Aquatics and the pump is a Beauty 1800, I think.

Does it still make the sound when the impeller is out of the pump housing?

Is the venturi clogged? Did you take out the pump and give it a good cleaning? I bet its a catalina 1800 pump

I took it to the LFS and the girl there told me that the impeller is bad because it is free spinning when it shouldn't be and that because of it, the impeller is off balance and is scraping against the inside of the pump.

Make sense?

I tried to look for the pump online to see if I can buy a replacement impeller but I can't find anything for it.

Is this your skimmer?

If so, then I believe Luke's right and the pump is a CA1800, found here:

Awesome find. Thank you much but I don't know how long it I can wait without it. My tank is sort of almost set up since the first of June. I am just waiting to get my new lights and I haven't been running the skimmer since I started adding my fish and live rock.

Until I can get a new impeller, I am going to try to "glue" the impeller to the turbine with some epoxy or something.
