Dude he popped back up.I saw him disappear without a trace again into the rocks way in the back of my tank.Is that where he likes to hang out?Does he pair up with a pistol shrimp since he is a goby?I'm guessing no???

No the Firefish will not pair up with the goby, you also have to be careful, that the firefish will not jump out of the tank when it gets stressed. I just bought a pair last night to help my royal gramma feel a bit safer and come out more and it work like a charm.

Yes, they do jump. Also, they get stressed by fish and hide until they starve to death. Be sure there is no other fish that will bother them.

I'll just add that mine hid a lot in its favorite little cave under some rock for much of the time the first few weeks I had him. I don't think he was being harassed, just shy. I did make it a point to put some "meaty" food at the mouth of his cave when he was in hiding. He had me worried for awhile. He's now out "surfing" the Koralias much of the time. Give him time.

There is none at all. Some fish are very shy and skittish, and my royal gramma was both. The only time I seen him was at feeding time and only his head would poke out of the shell that he staked out. So I use the firefish, because they like to swim out in the open alot and they just look pretty. The gramma sees them swimming around in the open, and thinks hey it might be safe out there. And it worked. Now the only time it is in the shell is at night. And they all get along as long as the firefish stay away from the shell. Have a total of 4 fish in a 75 gal sofar and I think only 1 or two more.

Pink and blue spot goby
royal gramma
two firefish
large colony of zoas
and a bunch of live rock.

Firefish can act as dither fish for more timid species.
