ID Algae/Plant & Help getting rid of it
I have this algae/Plant growing inside my tank and I need help to ID it. I also need help getting rid of it. It seems like it is creeping across my rocks and by my corals. I tried pulling it off but that doesn't work well. It's growing more each day. It's like a vine.
Any help would be appreciated. Bob ![]() ![]() |

Its called caleurpa. It grows quickly. If you cannot pull it out quick enough then I would suggest a fish that would eat it. Dwarf angels come to mind as do tangs. There are also invertabrates like emerald crabs that will comsume it.
To slow it down a bit cut the length of time your lights remain on until you are able to get it under control.

OK I guess I'll get a tang an dwarf angel and the crab. Do you think I'll have too many fish though, it's only a 30g? I have 3 small fish in there now, 2 more can't hurt. Will they pick on my other fish, I have a Purple firefish, Clown and a Orange spot golby.
Cutting the lights back some is good idea. Think it will hurt all my other corals in the tank? I'm guessing that the algae would do more damage over time.

even if you pull it out. the little bits that will be left in the rocks will sometimes still grow new plants. dont leave that stuff to grow if you dont want it in there, yank it out now. more will likely grow in its place. Its a great biological filter, will keep your water very clean. I would try to grow it in a seprate tank. not in the display.
