Over flow depth for 125 boxes

I'm having Bob at Reef Mania make me a set of over flows. I know how much linear flow is needed but my bulkheads are about 3 inches below the water line which I still plan on using turned down elbows but I'm not sure how deep the boxes should be. Using a reef dart and it will flow about 3,000 gph. My original thought was about 3 inches out from the back wall, 24 inches in length and 8 inches in heigth. Thinking maybe more on the heigth maybe 10"? Comments? There will be two over flows and at least 54 on the linear overflow.

I don't want this thing gasping and sucking like it does now.

I made my box just large enough(deep) to fit my hole, which is about 3" below the water line as well. I dont have a down turned elbow though. I dont see the need to have a really deep box anyway.

The down turned elbow may not be necessary but I have a pretty strong suction going on so since the current level is 3 inches below the water line it will be less than that with the over flow installed I may need them. At least as a precaution.
