Upgrade from T5 to metal halide

I just upgraded from T5 ho to a 250 watt metal halide in my frag tank. My question is should I ease my metal halide lights on maybe a hour a day. Or can I just leave them for 6 hours.

Thanks

I plan to upgrade from overdriven T5s to MHs next week, and I plan to start out by cutting my photoperiod in half when I first turn the MHs on. Then add one hour a week until I reach my normal photoperiod (8 hours).
