carbon filter question

How bad is it for your tank if you forget to rinse out the carbon cartridge before putting it into your sump?

Thanks!

It's not the end of the world. Some Carbon can leach nasties back into the water once they are depleted and some are much less likely to do that. I would not get into the habit of doing it.

Carbon only works for about 2 weeks before it is used up & needs to be changed. If you dont change it out. it just becomes a nitrate trap.

I do weekly water changes & change the carbon every other water change. It mite seen expensive.....BUT think of how much money you have into your tank.

I would be a little worried if its the 12g tank you did it in. If you can make a quick batch of saltwater I would consider at least a couple gallon water change.

actually the bacteria in your tank uptake carbon --so if anything you are giving them a healthy treat

Its not really going to hurt. The first time I used Pura-Complete. I sqeezed the fiber bag & all the residue went into the tank. It looked like the fish were swimming in coffee.

It all cleared up & went away. Everything was ok....fish are fine
