Question About Temperature HELP

I have a 30 gal. bio cube. It has been doing great for around 2 years. Untill now!!!! Oh noes. I have noticed that one of my coral and a fish have died recently. I think its due to my tank rising in temperature. My tank has always been between 78-81 deg. but recently I added a protein skimmer to the back sump. I dont remember which one but its the one that fits directly in the back sump. Since i added the protein skimmer the temp has risen to about 84 almost 85 deg........ and i think its having adverse affects on my tank..... any ideas of a good enough but cheap chiller? i can spend around 100$.

Ideas? comments?

Well you'll need to check your tank parameters and then post them. Salinity, amm., nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, pH, alk.
List what coral and what fish that it was that died.
But, if your tank does not have proper circulation, than yes temperature could have been your problem. I doubt you need a chiller. List what you are using for circulation in the aquarium. If the surface of the water is not being disrupted well enough, than heat will not dissipate from the water. Also, these all in one systems tend to have poor air circulation to begin with because of the full hood over top of the tank with PC's that are barely being cooled off. I know with the Red Sea Max aquariums, they come with a fan that you can install in the back. I'm not sure about the biocubes, it may have come with it, or it may already be in there, or you may just need to buy an upgrade kit or mod. Once you list the stuff I asked for we can try to pinpoint your problem.

I would add a few fans blowing across the tank water before investing a chiller.

You need to make sure your heater and fans are controlled by a ranco controller. It will save you a lot of grief.

Ok, well what was the type of coral and fish that died? How long did you have them for?
Still want to know what you have for flow in the aquarium.
It may very well be the temperature, which could have gotten high enough that there wasn't enough dissolved oxygen in the tank, and that would be worse if you didn't have enough flow in the tank.
