J&L is in Canada has nice rock most of the time - and if you spend $100 with them the shipping is free.

I buy stuff from them regularly. They told me shipping live rock would cost $250+ though?

Hmm, I live really close to them so I didn't read the fine print since I don't use their shipping services. Looks like they add $2-3/lb for rock shipping to Ontario - yikes!
I say take the offer of the person who said they'd bring you a piece!

Aiptasia are a pest. They multiply rapidly and can take over a tank and will sting corals. Once in the tank, new or old, they will persist. You can mix new live rock and base rock which you can buy dry if you like.

You are near my location. Do you have any favorite stores near the niagara area? I wonder if the border crossing would charge me on bringing it back from the states.

Actually.
Does anyone know a good saltwater store in the Toronto area? I'd rather buy it here than have to deal with the issue at the border. I don't care if it's dead rock or not, I can always get a couple pieces of LR later on to seed it. Dead Rock in Toronto... anyone?

I think Tom's favorite store in the buffalo area is Salt Water Paradise in Lockport. I have seen him there a number of times.

Oakville Reef Gallery is supposedly very very good.
You can get more vendor recommendations at www.aquariumpros.ca but be warned they have some *unusual* requirements if you want to use their forums.

Hey chatyak,
What the heck is the deal with all of the taxes in Canada? I just got back from Niagara (beautiful by the way) and kept getting nailed by the taxman! I don’t mind getting sc@#%ed every now and again but they seemed to think that I was a nymphomaniac! I kept standing outside the hotel with a piece of lr and you never showed up. The Mounties eventually showed up and toted me away (I guess they don’t like big ugly guys with the American flag tattooed on them standing around with rocks). Lol, that’s it for my one-liners. Seriously though, it’s incredible what nature is capable off, I guess that’s why we spend so much time and effort in this hobby to try and recreate it. Back on topic, another upside to the “dead” rock is that it, imho, makes aquascaping easier and allows more control over what goes into your tank as far as hitchhikers. Looking forward to seeing the final product of all you research and work.
