What size Sump?
TANK 40 BREEDER 36X18X16 AG BLK
TANK 50 GAL 36X18X18 AG BLACK TANK 65 GAL 36X18X24 AG BLACK I'm trying to decide what size sump I should use under my 150 gal (4'x2'x2'). I would like to have plenty of space in my return section to have extra water to compensate for evaporation. I know bigger is better as far as water volume, but since I'm new I'm not sure if I might screw my self by having such a tall sump under my stand. I built my stand myself and I have 31" of height from the floor under the stand to the bottom of the tank. The 65 gal would fit and leave me 6"' of space below the bottom of DT. But would I be able to get a NW200 in and out with just 6"? Thanks in advance for your help |

You want as much water volume as you can. But you will most likely need more than 6" of space if you go with the larger sump. Depending on skimmers, whether they go in the sump or not you may run into problems with space. Can you plumb two of the tanks together?

Thanks for the reply atwinparadox2
Plumbing 2 of the tanks together is not an option for me as I'm putting the Sump in the stand below my DT. The maximum footprint I can have for a sump is about 36" x 18". I'm figuring on getting a NW200 that will go in the sump. I'm also planning on using external pumps. I'll have 1 for return from the sump and 1 for a closed loop. So I need the left over space for the pumps. I would like to pick up as much water volume as i can by have a taller sump. I was already thinking the 65 gal might be too high to have under my stand even though it will fit. I guess the 50 would be a better choice. |

The body width on the DNW-200 is listed at 8" and the footprint is listed at 10.5" x 15"
So you will definitely need more than 6" of clearance under your stand. Also, as stated above... the more water volume the better.

Thanks Tswitfy! Dumb me I looked right at those dimensions and I did not even think about visualizing the pump turned on it's side while I try to get it in/out of the sump.
The 50 gal would leave me about a foot of height between the sump and bottom of my DT. I assume that would be enough space to take a NW200 in and out if need be. Right ?? I may need to paste this in a different thread but does anybody Know the difference between these NW200'S Footprint: 13.25" x 11.5" http://www.aquacave.com/detail.aspx?ID=496 Footprint 10.5" x 15" http://www.marinesolutionsinc.com/ca...products_id=48 |

Yeah that should be enough room, I have to turn my MSX skimmer on its side to get it out of my sump.
As far as the difference... The AquaCave looks like a newer generation one perhaps, as the neck and collection cup are diffferent. Same pump though... honestly, who knows. Hopefully some others will be able to chime in on it for you.
