Tell if glass is tempered or not?

I heard from someone that if I were to put on a pair of polarized sunglasses and look at the glass, tempered glass would have sort of a rainbow like reflection. Can anyone confirm this?

The strain pattern resulting from tempering can be observed with polarized light or by using a pair of polarized sun glasses

I wouldn't trust that method, I just recently tried to drill my 55Gallon tank and it shattered into 1,000,000 pieces.

Believe me I looked at it 20 times and in the end decided to go with it.

Good thing I only spent $40 on it
