Re: Aptasia

What is the best way to rid of aptasia? Is a Copper Band the route to go?

Nope, Copper bands are hit and miss. Try kalkwasser paste, its the eradicator of choice here. Other methods are Joe's Juice, reef epoxy, hot water to name a few. But, most will say kalkwasser paste works everytime.

I just added a peppermint shrimp, and I'm expecting great things based on my experience with them years ago...

Did the Kliens bother any of your corals when it finished with the aiptasia? Did it start to eat other foods once the aiptasia was gone?

I tried Joe Juice but they kept coming back. I recently purchased a peppermint shrimp, it looks like it did the job

I used Red Sea Aiptasia X ti kill as many Aips as I could find. I think I spent a whole day killing the bastards. I also have added two peppermints to hopefully 'maintain" the number of aips down.

I am also considering using some epoxy to fill in some of the holes in my LR that seem to be safe havens for aiptasia.

Make sure you treat your sump as well if you have one. For me they tend to be much clearer in my sump, almost transparent, making it hard to spot them. You need to treat your whole system, not just the main tank.

Anyone who has a large tank with no aiptasia problems is worthy of much credit.
