VorTech MP40W

W00T! i got my VorTech today! . It was very easy to install took maybe 5 minutes if that! I was most worried about the sound but its not even bad! Right now i have it in reef crest mode at about 80%. I will definitely be getting a second one of these and removing my K4's! i love the control and battery back up and its small size .

For those VorTech users i want to know what mode you have yours in and why you chose this mode, how many VorTech's you are using and how big of a tank. Thanks everyone!

My tank is a 180 gallon, and I have one vortech on each side running in reefcrest random sync/anti-sync mode.

So when one side is at full blast, the other is calm.

I have a 75 Gal using only one MP40 set at short pulse approx 80% power on the pulse. Creates a good wave motion.

Curiuos as to what benefits are gained from each type of setting though. I purchased it to create a wave so immediately set it for that. On a 75 gal (4') tank the long pulse mode was of little effect so I tinkered with short pulse and was much happier with that.

Does the flow reach from one side to the other on your 180?

I have three. Two are in Reefcrest, one in Lagoon. All of them are set to Master so they can not communicate with one another.

Same but in a 125. I like the random motion compared to the pulse mode. An OM4 takes care of other random waves.
Pulse mode will give you some surges though. I've seen a tank with it but didn't like it.
I had to place my controllers 4' apart to get good communication.
The flow doesn't really reach the other side but it does fine.
Congrats!

Close, but it isn't quite all the way. Maybe 3/4ths of the way across? I can only tell when the xenia sways back and forth.

Marcs setup probably gives the best random flow.

I prefer the anti-sync mode so that there's more net flow going on at any given time, but it's still random as to which powerhead is pushing more. The flow from both vortechs meets in the middle, and creates some interesting undertow patterns and eddies.
