Thoughts on Hydor Protein Skimmer?

We are researching equipment to set up a 235g tank. We are a little overwhelmed with researching protein skimmers.

We need an external due to height restrictions and would like the quietest possible. We narrowed our search to the Hydor Performer 700.

Looking at various on-line retailers and couldn't find any reviews. Hoping to get any feedback from the pros.

Thanks in advance ~

Have you thought about the DAS-EX3. Amazing skimmer with a proven design, based on a deltec and way cheaper. Would be perfect for your setup. Here is a link to the DAS skimmer club.

This sentence doesn't support your choice of skimmers. Yet the following quote says you found all sorts of information on all the other skimmers.

I'd go with the skimmers that have good reviews and have available information.

way too small of a skimmer for that tank, realistically that skimmer would be good to about 90 gallons I'd say.
What is your budget and how much space do you have to put the skimmer?

Thanks, all.

Our budget is less than $1000.00 -- preferrably closer to $800. Our footprint is 24" depth, no limit on height and fairly open on width.

To clarify my comments on reviews... I couldnt' find any reviews on the Hydor. I've also seen fantastic reviews on H & S but am having a hard time finding them on-line.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance-
k

not sure on the comment of the das-ex3 being only big enough for a 90 gallon unless thiers 200 fish in thier LOL...

seen that in action on a 300 gallon. and it worked great with a medium bioload

I have an H&S A150 that I purchased on the used forum and it is great, but if I would have seen the CNC Marine Supply skimmers I would have probably gone with one of them. The 300A In-Sump Skimmer with around 1700lph pulls a lot more air than my eheim run H&S and it is only around $700! The only negative is that it is not a recirculating skimmer, but it does have a turbulence diffuser. I have not seen one in person but it looks really nice.

H&S can be bought from Fins Reef and Aquarium Specialty and others, both of these are under the sponsors site. You may need the 150 external from H&S for under 700 dollars Good luck
