elaborate

what kind of bulbs and wattage?? most improtantly wht kind of bulbs.

DE's must have a glass shield...but it goes over the reflectors/fixture....not over the tank

if you are using SE's and just removed a dirty piece of glass without any kind of acclimationt he the higher light intensity you achieved by removing it...that could have fried them as well

Even more of an issue with Double Ended bulbs. SE bulbs are shielded by the casing. DE bulbs emit dangerous levels of UV if they aren't behind a glass cover. Bad for you and your corals.

Are you talking about a casing that is actually part of the SE bulbs?

The glass on the bulb has a shield built in normally for SE.
