how do you know if its working?
my asm mini G skimmer were is the adjustable pipe suposed to be, at all the way down, or all the way up, or in the middle??

There isn't a magic spot... it will differ depending on your particular setup.
Start with it all the way open... whether that is all the way up or all the way down. Allow it to settle in for a few hours, then gradually work it closed (allowing it to settle each time) until you begin to get good skimmate.

what do you mean all the way open ,, the cup will fill up with water, so are you saying to fill the cup up and then work the water down ,were would you stop the water level at./ thanks

No... Start with the water as low as you can inside the skimmer body. This will mean your skimmer outlet is unrestricted, and completely open.
You will more than likely not even have bubbles reaching the collection cup at that level. Then gradually move the pipe so the water level raises inside the skimmer. A good starting point is where the bubbles are bursting just below the entrance to the skimmer's neck.

That is the air intake for the pump.
