Yes, there IS a test for new reefers! Enjoy!

[there may be more than one right answer)

1) if there is algae growing in my display the way to stop it is to eliminate: a) overfeeding problem b) phosphate problem
2) if there is red slime on my sandbed I have: a) algae b)cyanobacteria
3) phosphate comes from: a) tapwater b)fishfood c)live rock d)sand
4) if alkalinity and calcium won't stay up the likely culprit is a) iron b) magnesium
5) my new tank needs: a) weekly water changes of 10% b) trace elements
6) if I have ammonia show up the first thing to do is: a) run carbon and do a water change b) add magnesium c) add baking soda
7) the reason for quarantine is to a) medicate your new fish b)protect your tank
8) primary sources of oxygen in your water: a) salt mix b) skimmer c) macroalgae d) surface exchange
9) evaporation promotes: a) cooling b)lower salinity c) higher salinity
10) if a pointy snail falls over you should: a) let it get up on its own: it needs the exercise for its internal shell ligament b) set it upright near the glass: pointy snails can't crawl on sand

Salinity 1.024-6; alkalinity 8.3-9.3 on KH scale; calcium 420; magnesium 1300, temp 78-80, nitrate .2. Ammonia 0. No filters: lps tank. Alk and cal won't rise if mg is low.

Current Tank Info: 105g AquaVim wedge, yellow tang, sailfin blenny,royal gramma, ocellaris clown pair, yellow watchman, 100 microceriths, 25 tiny hermits, a 4" conch, 1" nassarius, recovering from 2 year hiatus with daily water change of 10%.

good move. It CAN be accumulated gunk. But it can also be something deceased, for sure.

question 1 can also be a overfeeding problem, which will cause the phosphate problem. It can also be a cause of old bulbs which will make algae grow.
