Opinions on location of return pump from sump
Ok, I am replacing my 150 gallon rubbermaid stock tank sump with a 300 gallon sump. Presently, my sump is behind my tank at a right angle to it, and the pump is right in the middle of the two.
Here is a picture: Question: Do I have to move my pump over next to the sump, or can I leave it where it is and run the the PVC all the way from the sump (I will be using 2" PVC, downsizing to 1.5" at the pump, per suggestion of traveller7) One reason I would like to do this is because the pump is already plumbed for the return back to the tank, and it would be nice to just leave it there. Plus, it seems I would have much more pressure going into the tank with that short return distance. Additionally, I wouldn't have the pump out in the middle of the floor, which is another bonus. Thoughts?

Obviously my concern is whether it is "good" to have the pump 15' away from the water source, but I don't know the physics behind it.

I think that would be fine. As long as the pump's intake is not restricted, and is below the source water level, it will be fine.
