question about Flow thru the sump....?

I got my tank and sump going today and want to know how much flow should be going thru the sump? Also, how full should my 2 corner overflows be?

I have 2 1" drains w/ball valves...
1 side goes to my fuge and the skimmer side of the sump, and the other 1 to just the skimmer side of the sump.
I'm running my return pump wide open.
I have the flow on the fuge reduced to almost a trickle, is this correct?

Should I reduce the flow on my other 2 valves for the skimmer side to raise the levels in the overflows and slow down the flow on the skimmer side of the sump also? Or do I run everything wide open but the fuge?

any input is appreciated!

I like to do about 5x system volume through the sump an hour. I would never try to restrict drain flow in order to raise the level in the overflow box, though, way too much chance of overflowing the tank. Instead, build taller standpipes so that the water level is just higher by design.

I'm not sure I can add to CRVZ's wisdom
