Why so much evap?

Why is there so much water evaporation in my tank?

It is a 26g bowfront with 10g sump.

I just started running the t5s, and I am seeing almost a gallon of evaporation a day!

I already have to go back to the LFS to get more!

Is this normal???

the temp is 75~78 degrees farenheit

That doesn't seem too abnormal.

I evaporate about 2 - 2.5 gallons a day. Sometimes more if its really hot and I have the fan on.

Get an RO/DI. It'll save you hassle and $ in the long run. Plus you can set it up to top of automatically saving more hassle and keeping your tank more stable.

wow, and in Florida. I lose about a gallon a day on an 80 degree reef, 54gallons. But sometimes they do, if you're in a low humidity area or running a lot of air conditioning. It keeps your tank cool, and will enable a kalk system to supply your tank quite nicely, which are the advantages.

The evaporation depends on a lot of parameters including how tight your hood/top or open top, temperature, humidity, etc. The amount of make up needed may be perfectly normal like the others have said. If it continues, however, I would check for a small leak or even some "wicking" path. These can occur where hoses, power cords, returns, Hang on filters, pumps are located at. I good indication is excessive salt creep

agreed plus water circulation and cooling fans--esp those the push air across the surface of the water
