Is it worth modding my skimmer (Octopus DDNW-150)

Well i know there is tons of discussion on the subject, but not too much on the recirculating skimmer, let alone the dual recirculating skimmer. Would it be worth modding my skimmer? If so, what mods? Its currently getting fed down from one of my overflows. I think my water level is too high in it since i'm skimming very yet and its open all the way (so i can't even adjust it anyway). Think i should lower my riser tube (dreain) in order to lower the water level? (since i'll probly have too anyway when i mod it so i don't have water shooting out the top). Should i also add the gate valve mod when doing so? What is the gutter guard mod, does it work? Should i just open up the venturi and see what that does first? If not enough do the mesh mod on both pumps? I just don't want it overflow uncontrolably after modding both pumps (i don't know if the 6" chamber can handle it). PLEASE HELP thanks
