Would this work instead?

So I'm building a inside overflow that I saw built on another forum. But was wondering one thing. Click on link so you understand. You see how the water will go through the one elbow and then climb up to go through 2 elbows. When that pipe goes down can I just put a T there were it'll allow the water to go straight down and I would put a elbow and a other piece of PVC on there to have air flow. Or will that cause a problem?

Note this isn't for SW tank..
