total volume vs. display size

if you have say a 125 w/55 gal sump =180 total volume do you get to keep a higher bioload or does the 125 tank size keep the bioload the same no matter how big the sump? this of course is aimed at any tank size and totall volume ie. 75/55, 180/125, etc.

More volume = more bioload. With a good ratio of liverock to gallon of water.
