Macroalgae Harvest

Is there a rule of thumb as to how often or when macroalgae should be harvested from a refugium for nutrient export? I've seen folks mention that they do this weekly, etc. but, at what point does one maximize nutrient removal?

When it fills the tank you have it in
I heard cut it down to about 1/4 of the size
rinse and repeat

I remove maybe a 1/4 at most. I do it as often as it seems needed.

OK, so it seems that as it fills the tank one should harvest 1/4 - 1/3 of it. I'm growing mostly Chaeto (and some leftover Caulerpa) which doesn't grow as fast. So, it seems that it may not be weekly which I could see happening if it were all Caulerpa.
