Silencing my Skimmer!
Hey guys!!! I got my Euroreef CS-6 on my 90g reef now. The thing has always been extremely noisy. I have a silencer on the end of the air tube, but it still noisy...I guess I could run the air line to the garage. Any thoughts?

put another silencer on it if you can but doing that is going to hinder the performace of the skimmer. the silencer also will get cloged up sometimes and that will hinder the performance of the skimmer.
i added a air stone to the end of the silencer and that helped abit without restricting air flow. |

What if I run the air tube about 15 feet up into my attic. Will that hinder the performance of the skimmer?

yes. It would be like trying to breath through a LONG snorkle.

Get an old 4 oz. plastic bottle with a screw on cap. or a small vitamin bottle and gently ream both ends out so a piece of airline tubing will enter snugly. stick the airline comming from the venturi into the bottom of the bottle/container. about an inch is good. then stuff a napkin loosely into the container. screw the lid on and attach a short piece of airline tubing into it from the hole in the lid that you made. about an inch long is ok. very litle sound now. enjoy.

just keep in mind that anything you do to make the skimmer quiter is going to have an effect on the performance of the skimmer wether it be small or large. usualy it is a bad effect, but it could be small or a huge effects on how it performs.

True! I do know that this skimmer works better on my 90g than the 225g it was on before. It seems to produce more foam...
