Help - I think my ballast blew on my Nanocube...

I plugged in my lights for my Nano cube and heard a pop, the lights flickered and then it smelled like a burnt electric smell. I have the 2x36 watt PC hood with the lunar lights and fans. The lunar lights and the fans are still working when I plug in the ballast so I know the whole thing didn't fry. Also, after the incident occurred I once saw the fluorescent lights flicker so I know the bulbs didn't blow. I assume it's the ballast - which sucks because it's like $90 to replace. Any cheaper ideas or troubleshooting suggestions? Thanks.
