Acclimating existing coral

Ok I need good advice here. I have a T5 Light fixture coming on Friday. What the best way to acclimate the new light to my existing coral.

My concern is with my softies bleaching or burning them. My rock formation with coral on it comes up very close to the top of the tank.

I have alot of shrooms, 6 ricordias, xenias, 4 leathers, trumpet, 2 torches, 2 star polyps, hammer, candy, cup, sea wip, 2 brains and 2 clams.

All are doing excellent.

Best way is to lessen the lighting period and slowly bring it up to where it used to be with your current lights. so say you run for 8 hours now. start maybe with running the new lights for 4 or 5 hours and maybe bring the period up a half hour a day. Also maybe you can lower your corals if they are not attached to the rocks.

Most are attached. Also out of my list which ones are more sensitive?

This is exactly how I acclimate all my new corals, and I have not had any problems. I increase my daylight time by one hour per day. I do not decrease my actinics.

another option is to get a few layers of plastic window screening, say 3-4, then remove one every couple days.

Ok I use the mounting legs for the light. The window screen won't melt from the heat of the lights?

If your T5s get hot enough to melt the screen, you've got bigger problems than melted plastic...call the fire department.
