Water changes
Ok I just completed a 20% water change on 50 gallon tank, which is sps dominated. When I turn the return pump back on I notice debris. Is this normal??? I just don't want to stress on the inhabitants.

are you sure it was debris and not air.
after sitting the pump will cavitate, or blow somw air and it will stop as soon as it's purged

all I saw was particulate matter, which cleared up within 45 minutes to an hour.

Probably accumulated in the sump. Not great but shuld do no harm as long as you blow it off corals and don't let it settle on them.

No worry, starting and stopping pumps will do that.
