Talking Fluffy white stuff

Hi,

My tank is still in cycle mode, but I have noticed a few places with what looks like white feathers coming out of the rocks, and I also had what I can only describe as "very small snowflake's" on the front glass? What is that and is it good or bad and if bad, how do I get rid of it? thanks

Those are probably feather dusters coming out of your rock just do a goggle search for pics of feather dusters and they are a good hitchhiker in live rock and really cool. How old is the tank? Sometimes when you first startup a tank you will get like micro bubbes on the glass because of being so new they will go away. How did you mix up your water when you added it to the tank?

without pictures it is hard to guess what they are...

I would think the things sticking out of the rocks are possibly hydroids and snow looking stuff may be a worm, spyroid maybe.

worm

hydroids are harmless for the most part, and the worms can just be scrapped off the glass. I would not use a mag cleaner cause they may scratch the glass if caught in the cleaner.

Again just a guess so if you have pics post them and that will help.

hI,

Thanks for the help. The tank is on its 2nd week and everything seems to be going very well. I had some good live rock in it and see alot of things coming out of it like those red things with little legs that hang out of the rock, but I was concerned that I might have some bad stuff too. I mixed the salt in a seperate container, of course I ended up with it being a bit too salty, so I had to take out some and replace with fresh water until it got to where it should be. I had 2 raw shrimp in it and had added some of that stuff to put more bateria in and I had one spike in amonia, but for this past week, everythng tests as zero, so I took the shrimp out and put some snails in, but I need to get more -(only had 2 big ones, rest (6) were tiny, its a 98 gallon tank). I am hoping if it stays o.k., I might be able to get a fish in a few. Thanks, you guys are great
