Few Questions

I was wondering if it is possible to have to much live rock? I have 40lbs in a 28 gallon bow front fish tank.

Is it safe to have an anemone and a purple lobster in the same tank? If so, is it ok to have the basic light bulb (i believe its a reef light bulb) for him?

Is it safe to have a coral beauti and a hippo tang in the same tank?

What would be the perfect cleaning crew?

Thanks

Jimmy

My 02

How much live rock depends on what you want to keep ... fish need swimming room and live rock displaces water.

Lobsters are predators - I would not put one in any of my tanks.

IMO new aquarist should stay away from anemone's - most need excellent (expensive) lighting as well as pristine water conditions. Something you might want to defer on until you tank matures and you have a better understanding of whats involved.

A 28 gallon tank is considered a small tank by SW stds ... might be marginally Ok for a coral beauty but definitely too small for any tang.

No such thing as a perfect cleaning crew .. depends on the individual tank - lots of posts on the subject.

I have had my tank set up for a year and a half and just recently down sized from a 90 gallon fish only tank to this 28 gallon tank. If i take a lot of the live rock out and make room for a hippo would it be possible? The hippo is a baby and when it gets bigger i plan to trade it in. Would that be ok?

What would be the perfect amount of live rock for a fish only 28 gallon tank?

Your best bet is to avoid a tang ... your tanks WAY TO SMALL and while taking the fish back to the LFS sounds great it tends to be easier to say/type than actually do - catching fish in a reef tank is tough even for experts.

I was thinking of only doing a fish only tank. I really want the hippo, but you think it will be tough to have in that size tank?

In the tank now I have an Urchin, clown fish, Pajama Cardinal, purple lobster, and a coral beauti. What else could I add to it?

No offence but as far as fish goes .. tanks already fully stocked as is. As previously stated .. your tank is considered small by SW stds.

Your tank is WAY too small for a hippo, regardless of the size of the fish and regardless of whether it is a reef or FOWLR.

If your limiting yourself to a 28, there's no way you'll have long term success (over a few months at that size in my opinion) with even the smallest available hippo tang (and I often see them around 1" or less). They grow quickly and will be extremely cramped in that small of a tank. Do yourself a favor and consider other fish or get a much larger tank (I got rid of a 4" hippo from my 150 gallon tank as I felt it was too much fish for even that size).
